End of July Progress

Things are progressing well at the house with rooms being rebuilt instead of being taken apart and the contractors believe that they are not too far behind schedule so fingers crossed everthing is still on track for 2009.

We are at the stage of colours for walls, floors and ceilings, type of lights, cooker canopies etc, etc.

The village hall is nearing completion and there is forward progress on the new ferry terminal. All in all lots happening. Raasay also has its usual influx of visitors and returning locals and families, which is always welcome and adds to the vibrancy of the island.

We ran a course for one of our school groups out of the youth hostel here on Raasay "Back to Basics". Followed the ethos of Youth Hostelling as it used to be! Woolly Hats and Tackity Boots were a pre-requisite of all attendees! Thoroughly enjoyed by all involved I think.

We are running a summer programme of various activities at Cliftonhall School in Edinburgh and then we are back at Comrie for some more groups through September. We have a course for University students here on Raasay. Their studies are building industry related so we will have to see if we are able to employ them in something at the house.

Foundations of the new outdoor building

Rebuilt fireplace in the old "cafe"

"Where do these phone lines go?"

West Wing hall being used for the window refurbishment

Back courtyard towards the old workshop and climbing store (note how much light there is since the trees have been trimmed back in the courtyard)

Looking back the other way towards the back of the house. Look how overgrown the garden is . It really needs to be worked and come into production.

The old workshop transforming into the laundry.

The colour of the lime wash for the oldest part of the house round the back.

The finished article! Colour of house East wing after harling painted

The new Reception door

Summer has just flown by and hopefully you are all enjoying it despite the changeable weather.
Hope you also enjoyed seeing the progress that the contractors are making and we look forward to welcoming you all back to the house.
